Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is set to release a new electric scooter in the first half of 2023. While the name has not been announced yet, it is likely to be called the Honda eScooter and to take on TVS, Bajaj, and other competitors in the Indian market.

This possible Activa electric avatar will be marketed under the same umbrella as its gasoline counterpart. The Japanese brand is currently partnering with Honda Motorcycle, Japan to form a team that will help develop core technologies for electric scooters and add features to ensure that it suits Indian requirements.

The company conducted an in-depth study to find out whether launching a new electric scooter would be feasible in the Indian market. Similar discussions were made with the team in Japan to develop a practical and reliable product for our market.
Industry experts predict that the Indian EV market will have a CAGR of around 77% between 2017 and 2025. Currently, two-wheelers are one of the most popular EVs in the market and are expected to grow many times in the next few years.
Just this year, Honda introduced the EM1 electric scooter at EICMA 2022, which was designed for the European market. This new electric scooter offers battery-swapping tech that claims to offer a range of around 60 km on a single charge. With speeds up to 50 kmph, it's perfect for city dwellers who are looking for convenient, compact transportation with capabilities well beyond those of traditional gas-powered scooters.
The company plans to introduce the scooter in India by late 2023. HMSI is also testing battery-swap technology in Bangalore, where they're conducting trials since last year. No specifics have been shared yet.
