Maruti's focus on the small-car segment has made it a leading player in the market. Now, they're looking to achieve the same success with SUVs. SUV segments are becoming increasingly popular and lifestyle off-roaders are growing in demand, which is why the manufacturer is working hard to expand their SUV portfolio. So far, the new Brezza and Vitara models have been a big hit. However, more exciting SUVs are soon to come like the upcoming Baleno Cross and 5-door Jimny.
The Jimny is already sold in international markets in 3-door guise, and it's carved quite a niche for itself. Maruti is launching a 5-door version of the Jimny in India, and test mules are spotted in Leh and Ladakh. There are new test mules that have a 7-seat configuration.
Jimny 7-seater Spotted Testing
One doesn't have to be an absolute genius to see the similarities between the Mercedes-Benz G Class and Jimny. One guy from London even converted a Jimny into a mini Brabus G63 AMG. Would-be modders are likely to choose the Jimny as their default, and that event may create a stir in India like the Thar did. Hats off to Rahul Matneja for these spy shots, Riding Roots Adventure for observing this 7 seater hatchback, and Automotive Enthusiasts everywhere.

This is the first time we've seen the new 7-seater layout. These seem to be front-facing seats, although in some of the previous spy shots, these extra seats weren't easily recognizable. This shows that Maruti is aiming for Jimny to be a family SUV and not just an off-road vehicle. For these customers, additional seats will be a bonus. 3rd row seats are likely to be foldable so that you can also increase the amount of space in your car's boot before they're put away.
Recent spy shots of the Jimny reveal that the car will come with a red interior. With a red interior, this young car's youthful appeal increases tenfold. It will most likely attract a lot of young buyers.
Features
When the Jimny 7-seater is unveiled, you can expect it to come with a range of features like a 9 touchscreen infotainment system for all the passengers, steering mounted controls for easy access, rear AC vents for more comfortable rides all year round, and USB charging ports for convenience. Connectivity features should also be available for 5-door models as well as other products in the lineup.
This off-roader is notable for its 1.5L K15 engine, which generates a maximum power of 100 bhp and a peak torque of 130 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and a 4×4 system with low-range transfer case. The frame will be based on a rigid ladder frame with clearance up to 210mm and plenty of angles for approach, departure, and breakover.
The suspension will use 3 links and coil springs in front, this should make the ride smoother than in the 3 door model or 4X4 is not offered as standard. It should provide a more affordable starting price than the other models too.
The vehicle is slated to debut at the 2023 Auto Expo and will start testing later this year. The Car is expected to compete with Mahindra's Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door when it starts production.
