In Silicon Valley, USA, he worked as an engineer and product manager for a semiconductor maker (Applied Materials).
After graduating from Wharton in 2002, Sundar joined McKinsey & Company as a consultant. In 2004, he joined Google.
His responsibilities included managing Google Drive and managing innovation activities for a number of Google's client software products, as well as creating other programs such as Gmail and Google Maps.
To launch Google's browser, Sundar Pichai convinced Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of Google. Sundar played an important role in the final launching of Google Chrome, in 2008. As Alphabet's CEO, Pichai earns $242 million a year and owns a large stake in the company.
On December 3, 2022, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian ambassador to the United States, awarded Sundar Pichai the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honor bestowed by the Indian government.
Pichai expressed his support for India's G20 presidency in a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, Google plans to develop a single AI (Artificial Intelligence) for India that can translate over 100 Indian languages into speech and text.
