In addition to co-founding a technology company and working at an investment firm, Ramaswamy has written and spoken out against stakeholder capitalism, tech censorship, and critical race theory since 2020. As one of the intellectual godfathers of the anti-woke movement and an articulate and winsome champion of common-sense, populist approaches, Ramaswamy was named The Chief Executive Officer of Anti-Woke, Inc. by a 2022 New Yorker profile.
In February 2023, Ramaswamy announced his intention to run for president on Tucker Carlson Tonight.
In Cincinnati, Ohio, Ramaswamy was born and raised. His parents immigrated from Vadakkencherry, Palakkad, Kerala, India. After graduating from Kerala's regional engineering college, V.G. Ramaswamy worked at the General Electric Plant in Evendale, Ohio. Ramaswamy's mother is a geriatric psychiatrist in Cincinnati. According to Ramaswamy, American capitalism provides an antidote to caste systems in India by offering lower-caste citizens more economic opportunities.
In high school, Ramaswamy was class valedictorian, a nationally ranked junior tennis player, and a pianist.
With an A.B. in biology, Ramaswamy graduated with an A.B. in 2007 from Harvard College summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He wrote his senior thesis about the ethical issues raised by creating human-animal chimeras. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation acquired Campus Venture Network in 2009, a technology company that provided software and networking resources to university entrepreneurs. After Nikki Haley, Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy entered the Republican Party's presidential primaries with a promise to put merit back.
The 37-year-old, whose parents migrated to the United States from Kerala, announced the news during a live interview with Tucker Carlson, a conservative political commentator on Fox News.
His entry into the Republican presidential primary makes him the second Indian-American to do so.
Former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, Haley, announced her presidential bid earlier this month. In an announcement, she announced that she would run for the Republican nomination against her former boss, Donald Trump.
We are in the middle of this national identity crisis, Tucker, in which we have celebrated our differences for so long that we have forgotten all how we are just as alike as Americans bound by a common set of ideals that set this nation into motion 250 years ago.
This is why he announced tonight that he will run for president to revive those ideals in this country, calling wokeism a national threat.
The president added that he would end affirmative action in every sphere of American life, saying we need to reintroduce merit into America.
Mr. Ramaswamy, a second-generation Indian American, founded Roivant Sciences in 2014 and led one of the largest biotech IPOs of 2015. As a result of his successful clinical trials, FDA-approved products have been launched in multiple disease areas.
Currently, Ramaswamy is the co-founder and executive chairman of Strive Asset Management, an Ohio-based asset management company backed financially by Peter Thiel and J.D. Vance. Ramaswamy founded Strive to provide an alternative to larger asset managers such as BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard, all of which he has criticized for engaging in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activities and mixing business with politics.
After three months of launching its first fund, Strive's total assets under management surpassed $500 million on November 11, 2022. To compete with mainstream firms such as Glass Lewis and Institutional Shareholder Services, Strive launched a proxy advisory service in January 2023. Axios and Bloomberg have dubbed Ramaswamy "the leading anti-ESG crusader.
Ramaswamy is currently co-founder and executive chairman of Strive Asset Management. Besides founding successful healthcare and technology companies, he launched 2022 Strive Asset Management, a new firm dedicated to leading companies to focus on excellence over politics to restore the voices of everyday citizens in the American economy.
To put America first, we must first rediscover what America is. And to me, these are the basic rules that set this nation into motion from meritocracy to free speech to self-governance.
China's rise is one of the external threats facing the US, he said.
This needs to be our top foreign policy threat, not pointless wars elsewhere. We'll have to make some sacrifices to accomplish that, he said. It will take a declaration of independence from China and complete decoupling. And that's not going to be easy. There will be some inconvenience involved, he said.
If that had been a Russian spy balloon, we would have shot it down instantly and stepped up sanctions. Why didn't we do that for China? he asked.
Our modern way of life depends on them, he argued. This economic co-dependent relationship must end.
According to Democratic National Committee chair Jaime Harrison, as Ramaswamy used Tucker Carlson's show to announce his campaign for president, one thing is clear: the race for the MAGA base is getting more crowded and messy.
Over the next few months, Republicans are guaranteed to take exceedingly extreme positions on everything from banning abortion to cutting Social Security and Medicare, so Harrison said he looks forward to continuing to make sure Americans know just how extreme the MAGA agenda is.

In 2016, a Forbes report stated that Ramaswamy had a net worth of $600 million (roughly Rs 4,960 crore).
It's the people we elect who run the government, not this cancerous federal bureaucracy. That's my message, Ramaswamy told Fox News.
