As Maharashtra's 20th and current Chief Minister, Eknath Sambhaji Shinde was born on 9 February 1964 and is the president of Shivsena. In the past, he served as the Minister for Urban Development and Public Works (Public Undertakings) in the Maharashtra government. He is currently a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He has been elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly four times in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.
Born in Satara, Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde belongs to the Maratha community. He grew up in Thane, where his family moved so they could make a living. After completing his 11th-grade education at Mangala High School & Junior College in Thane, he left school to support his family. His niece convinced him to go back to school and pursue higher education. Now, he has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University with a score of 77.25%
He was introduced to politics by then Thane Shivsena President Anand Dighe in early 1980. Shinde succeeded Dighe after Dighe died in 2001. He has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2004 for four consecutive terms.

BJP Member Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena Member Uddhav Thackeray were at odds. Shinde wanted to break the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance due to ideological differences, claiming that his fellow Shiv Sena members were not treated fairly by Uddhav Thackeray. However, Shinde only had 2/3rd of the votes in his party, so he couldn't act on his own accord just yet. 21 June 2022 was when Shinde and other MLAs from the MVA coalition moved to Surat in Gujarat, throwing the coalition into chaos. Uddhav Thackeray resigned as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and claimed he would resign from the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Shinde managed to reestablish his alliance with BJP and was sworn in as 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra with Devendra Fadnavis, who was appointed Deputy Chief Minister.
Lata Shinde is Shinde's wife. A boat overturned near their native village in Maharashtra on 2 June 2000, killing their son Dipesh (aged 11) and daughter Shubhada (aged 7). Shinde went into depression for several months after the boat overturned. To keep Shinde's mind occupied and away from depression, Anand Dighe provided him with emotional support and entrusted him with more responsibilities.
The surviving child, Shrikant Shinde, is an orthopedic surgeon and a member of parliament from the Kalyan constituency since 2014 (reelected in 2019).
He represents the Kalyan constituency in Maharashtra and belongs to the Shiv Sena political party. Shrikant Eknath Shinde (born 4 February 1987) is a member of the 17th Lok Sabha of India.
