Pranab Mukherjee was born on 11, December 1935. Pranab Mukherjee is an Indian politician who served as the Minister of Finance and Minister of External Affairs under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He has been a top member of the Congress Party since 1993, serving in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and as minister of state for finance and commerce in the Narasimha Rao government in 1991-96.

Political Career of Pranab Mukherjee
His involvement in politics happened early in his life, and he soon became a member of the Indian Parliament. In 1969, he was elected as a Rajya Sabha member of the Congress Party. Pranab Mukherjee was re-elected in 1975, 1981, 1993, and 1999. He was also the president of the West Bengal state unit of Congress. Mukherjee joined the cabinet in 1973 as Union Deputy Minister of Industrial Development when Indira Gandhi became Prime Minister. After rising through several cabinet positions, he finally reached the utmost designation: Finance Minister of India between 1982 and 1984.
Pranab Mukherjee began his career with Congress, but for a brief period he left, and it seemed like his political career was over. However, in 1989, Mukherjee re-entered politics with the P.V. Narashima Rao Government and became Planning Commission Deputy Chairman and Union Cabinet Minister, a post that he retained from 1995 to 1996.
For the first time in 1995-1996, Mukherjee served as Foreign Minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao cabinet before getting conferred as Outstanding Parliamentarian in 1997 by the Legislature of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.
This striking personality has also been a member of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and African Development Bank, where he served as chairperson during the equity crisis from 1994 to 1998. From 1991 to 1996, Mukherjee also served as deputy chairman of the Planning Commission while presiding over the SAARC conference between May and November 1995 and became President of India in 2012.
He was always a part of the Rajya Sabha during his lengthy career. He has been elected five times by a party-based voting system to the Rajya Sabha. During the Lok Sabha elections, he lost twice. Pranab Mukherjee won the seat of Jangipur, West Bengal, in the Lok Sabha elections of 2004 and made it to the 14th Lok Sabha. His skills were displayed again during negotiations for the Patent Amendment Bill in 2005.
As Defence Minister, Pranab Mukherjee wasn't officially involved but was persuaded by his negotiation skills. The bill got approved on March 23, 2005, another feather in his political career was added on 24 October 2006 when he was appointed as India's External Affairs minister. Alongside being Finance Minister in the 2nd Manmohan Singh-led government, he made the Union Budget of India in 2009 and 2010 and also presented the Union Budget of India in 2011.

Personal Life of Pranab Mukherjee
Pranab Mukherjee married Suvra Mukherjee on 13/July/1957, and they have two sons, Abhijit and Surojit, and one daughter, Sharmistha. Their son Abhijit is currently a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
