Lata Mangeshkar
Lata Mangeshkar was born in 1920 in Indore, India. Her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar was a well-established classical singer and theatre actor. Her mother, Sevanti Mangeshkar was a Gujarati woman who had been the second wife of Deenanath. As for siblings, Lata was the eldest of five siblings followed by Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridaynath.
All of her four siblings were stabilized and even began performing as singers and musicians when they were children. Lata, too, started acting at the age of 5, in a musical play by her father. The play was titled 'The Musical Drama.' She loved her sister Asha very much, and without her, she never would have done anything in life. Lata Mangeshkar was previously named Hema, but her father changed her name to Lata. Her father was who she looked up to the most - he was both her Godfather and first Guru. Deenanath passed away in 1942 at the age of 80. At that time, Lata was just 13 years old.
Her Struggle
No success is easy to achieve, but Lata Ji had to face several challenges along the way. Many musicians initially refused her because they thought she couldn't sing shrill enough--but then Lata Ji started working on the strength of her passion and talent & became the most famous female playback singer in India.
Lata Mangeshkar's father had passed away when she was being groomed by Master Vinayak, owner of Navayuga Chitrapat Movie Company. He assisted the Mangeshkar family and then offered Lata Ji's first song before her Hindi career started. Her song "Naachu Ya Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari" wasn't put in the final cut for an upcoming Marathi film, but her first Hindi song, "Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal Le Tu," greatly helped her chances of success.

Musical Career
Lata Mangeshkar has sung more than 50,000 songs so far in her career. She has achieved many records, and she has received many awards for her songs. Lata herself stated, "Ghulam Haider is truly my Godfather; the first music director who had faith in my talent."
All around the world, there are many songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Some of her most popular songs include Lag Ja Gale from Woh Kaun Thi, Milap Panghat Pe from Mughal-E-Azam, Chalte Chalte from Pakeezah, Dil Naadaan from Razia Sultan, Aao Aanewaala from Mahal, Raina Beeti Jaaye from Amar Prem, Satyam Shivam Sundaram from Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Ehsaan Tera Hindustani Ishq Parveen Ahluwalia Joshilaayi Hariyans Jai Baba guru rhiti karega jadugar hai.
R.D. Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, and Talat Mahmood were the three musicians in the Bengali band, Mukhraj Mann. They loved to sing songs and compose music for films as well. She composed her first song in 1955 when she sang “Rama Rama Tejo Ramana” in a Marathi film called Ram Karande Tamhane by Gajanan Jagtap. She has been composing songs for films since the 1960s.
Her Achievements
Legendary musician Lata Mangeshkar has often been awarded the highest recognition given to artists in her country. Some of her awards include Padma Bhushan in 1969, Padma Vibhushan in 1999, Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1999, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989.
Lata Mangeshkar has been honored in different ways throughout her long career. Indian Prime Minister's award, Best Music Director, and even the prestigious Best Song from a Movie Award. She also received a book that tells the story of this versatile singer.
