Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA)
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) was made a statutory body in 1974, according to the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act of 1971. CMDA is established under sub-section 1 of section 9 -A (2) of the Act. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority can entrust the work of execution of any development plan to any local authority or other authorities which have been specified in such orders.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority can authorize any local or other authority specified in their order to exercise any of the power vested in them under the Town and Country Planning Act 1971. While such authorization will be subject to restrictions and conditions as specified by the order, it can be withdrawn at any time.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has the following responsibilities:
A survey of Chennai Metropolitan will be taken and any reports from this survey will be drafted.
Preparing a master plan or detailed development plan for the Chennai Metropolitan Planning Area is near and dear to my heart.
