Digha Sankarpur Development Authority
The Digha Sankarpur Development Authority (DSDA) is an autonomous body under the Urban Development department. The Board of the DSDA is guided by its members, who are appointed by the Government of West Bengal.
Digha Development Scheme was merged with Digha Sankarpur Development Authority on May 1, 2007, when all its assets including the tourist establishments and the adjacent lands were transferred.
The government of West Bengal, in the Development and Planning Department, launched a development scheme called Digha in 1956. It acquired 1120 acres for comprehensive development of the area. The town and country planning branch of the department revised its plan for Digha’s territory in 1974.
As part of that revision, it constructed tourist accommodations and supporting infrastructure. It allocated lands at hotel/holiday home/residential sectors, created civic and support facilities like roads, water supply, markets, transport facilities, green zone, sea protection works etc. It also allotted necessary lands to the marine aquarium, marine corrosion research centre, digha science centre, hospitals and railway authorities etc.
