Global Firepower, a website that tracks military strength, mentions that these five armies are the most powerful based on the way they compare in a variety of categories, including military might, financials, logistics, and geography:
According to Global Firepower, the U.S. retains its top spot as the undisputed military power in the world.
With 2,085 fighters, 967 attack helicopters, 945 means of transport, and 742 special mission planes, America has more air units than any other country on Earth.
Additionally, the U.S. has 39,253 armored vehicles, 91 destroyers, and 20 aircraft carriers. It has around 1,400,000 active personnel.
According to Global Firepower's statistics, Russia has more tanks than any other country. Russia has 12,950 tanks, which is over double what the U.S. has.
Russia's army has 1,013,628 active personnel command, 27,038 armored vehicles, 6,083 self-propelled artillery pieces, and 3,860 rocket launchers on land.
Russia is expected to spend $48 billion on its military this year.
Third on this list is China, the most powerful country in Asia and a growing adversary of the United States.
It is estimated that the communist superpower has 2,183,000 active personnel, the largest number in the world.
The Chinese Navy has been building up in recent years while engaging in territorial disputes across the South China Sea. China now has 74 submarines, 52 frigates, and 36 destroyers, according to Global Firepower.
China has 33,000 armored vehicles and 3,500 tanks on land. Their Air Force has 1,232 fighter aircraft and 281 attack helicopters.
India has an estimated 1,444,000 active military personnel serving in its armed forces, which are engaged in a prolonged territorial conflict with Pakistan over the Kashmir region.
The developing nation has the highest number of tanks (4,292), towed artillery (4,060), and fighter aircraft (538), according to Global Firepower.
While the once-mighty British Empire no longer dominates Europe and the rest of the world, it retains a powerful military force.
The United Kingdom has a budget of $61.5 billion, 138,500 men and women serving in the armed forces, and 225 military aircraft.
At sea, the United Kingdom has two aircraft carriers, 30 warships, and 11 nuclear submarines.
