In the last seven decades, MHADA has provided affordable housing to nearly 7.5 million families across the state of Maharashtra (of which 2.5 million are from Mumbai). The Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority was founded in 1976 under the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Act. The MHADA was reformed by a Government Resolution that took effect on 5th December 1977. All of the current housing boards were consolidated together and made into one board called the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.
