Among the supreme Gods, Brahma is responsible for creation. He is also one of the Trimurti, the holy trinity, responsible for the three fundamental and core aspects of existence. In addition to being Svayambhu (self-created), he is also called Vagesa, the God of speech, creator of the universe, and source of the sacred Vedas. Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, is his consort.
Depicted as a sage with a flowing white beard, Brahma appears with four faces, each facing a cardinal direction. His lack of weapons symbolizes knowledge and creativity instead. The Vedas, rosary beads signifying time, a holy pot of water used for creation, and a ladle to feed the sacrificial fire can be found in his hands. The four Vedas are also said to have come from his four mouths. He is seated atop a lotus while clothed in pure white, with Hansa, the white swan being his mount. His consort Goddess Saraswati is thought to be the source of his creative power.
Lord Brahma created the entire universe, beginning with the ten Prajapatis (fathers of the human race) and Sapta Rishis (seven great sages), who later assisted him in the process. In addition to having great wisdom, Brahma is also often associated with creativity and understanding, thus bestowing knowledge to all gods and humans.
References to Brahma appear in numerous ancient texts and scriptures, each with a unique perspective. Some regard him as the self-born, supreme creator of the universe and its beings, whereas others identify Purusha or Brahman as the supreme creator with Brahma being secondary.
According to Bhagavata Purana, he arises from the ocean of causes when the universe and time come into existence. Several sources also view Lord Vishnu's navel as the source of Brahma's conception. Vishnu reclines on his serpent couch in a sea of milk, from which a lotus emerges containing Brahma. After entering deep contemplation while meditating on Vishnu and attaining realization, Brahma is granted creative powers and begins his work of creation. He combines the Prakruti (nature/matter) with Purusha (soul/spirit) to give birth to an array of creatures of multiple kinds. However, some texts depict there, being many Brahmas, each one only existing for one Kalpa or eon, thus beginning a new one for every Kalpa cycle.
Regardless of the story, Brahma is still seen as one of the more prominent Gods, although he is not regarded in the same way as some others. As the tale goes, his partner was playing the veena and he was so captivated by the melody that he neglected to properly welcome a mighty sage at his place. This angered the holy man who cast upon Brahma that there would be few temples devoted to him and his veneration will be restricted among people. Therefore, there are hardly any shrines dedicated to him, and devotion to him is minimal.
In India, there are a few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma. The most famous one is the Brahma temple in Pushkar, Rajasthan. Brahma temples can also be found in Asotra in Rajasthan, Thirunavaya in Kerala (Padmanabhaswamy Temple), and Thripaya in Tamil Nadu (Trimurti Temple). In addition to enhancing your creativity, worshipping him will help you gain Jupiter's blessings, and bestow success in your endeavors.
Most major temples in India celebrate a festival known as Brahmotsavam. Brahma Utsavam which means grand celebration or celebration performed by Brahma is the annual celebration of the deities of the temples, and it is believed that Lord Brahma himself is responsible for organizing and overseeing the ceremonies. According to mythology, this occasion has immense cleansing power and clears all sins committed.
Fire ceremonies, Abishekams (hydration ceremonies), Poojas/Archana (light and sound ceremonies), Yantras, and Mantras (special sounds) are prescribed by the sacred scriptures as ways to pray. The fire ceremony is the most evolved spiritual technology on earth to connect with divine beings. Participate in the remedial services to clear your karma and receive blessings.
Brahma's wife is the goddess Saraswati. She is considered the embodiment of his power, the instrument of creation, and the power that drives his actions.
One of India's most visited Brahma temples is located near Pushkar Lake in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan.
As an Aditya, Daksha is associated with priestly skills in Rigveda. In the epics and Puranic scriptures, he is a son of Brahma and a father of many children.
Shatarupa is the daughter of the creator deity, Brahma. According to Brahma Purana, Shatarupa was the first woman to be created by Brahma and mated with Manu.
As Saraswati was produced from Brahma, her union with him was considered criminal by the other gods.
