Netizens have gone into a meme-sharing frenzy after Punjab Kings bought English all-rounder Sam Curran for a record Rs 18.50 crore during the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction.
Mumbai Indians signed Australian Cameron Green for Rs 17.5 crore and Chennai Super Kings acquired Ben Stokes for Rs 16.25 crore. Lucknow acquired Nicholas Pooran for Rs 16 crore after a bidding war between Delhi Capitals.
Punjab Kings bought Samuel Matthew Curran for 18.5 crores on 23 December 2022, becoming the highest bidder in the history of the Indian Premier League.
English cricketer Samuel Matthew Curran plays for England in all formats. He represents Surrey at home and has played for multiple Twenty20 leagues, including the Indian Premier League for Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.
He made his Test and One Day International debuts in 2018 & his Twenty20 International debut in 2019. As part of the England team that won the 2022 T20 World Cup 2022, he took the most wickets for England and was named the Player of the Tournament. He is a left-handed all-rounder who bowls medium fast. In 2022, he tallied 5-10 against Afghanistan as the best English T20I figure.
Sam Curran was born on June 3, 1998.
He is the brother of Surrey and England cricketer Tom Curran and Northamptonshire cricketer, Ben Curran. His father played county cricket for Northamptonshire, where he attended school. Growing up in Zimbabwe, he was educated in Springvale House and St. George's College before his family left when land reform took place during their time there. In 2012, Sam moved to England and attended Wellington College.
